If at least some alpine spirit is hiding in you, you certainly know of the venues of the World Cup skiing competitions. Maribor has been hosting the Golden Fox since 1964 – it takes place in the Maribor Pohorje. Usually, the slalom and giant slalom races are organized, and the total time of both races is considered the total score. The ski event of the year fascinates the entire city, especially the Maribor and Pohorje volunteers, who help with the organization of the race.
Numerous supporters take part in the drawing of the starting numbers, since this is also a unique event that enriches the city, primarily in the international sense. Sometimes the weather plays with the organizers, as more frequent mild winters prevent the proper preparation of the track. Because of such problems, the competition was held in Kranjska Gora six times, once in Sarajevo, but only in 1998 and 2011 the event was not carried out.
Last year, the Golden Fox was especially marked by Tina Maze, the top Slovenian skier, who concluded her career in 2017 with her appearance in this competition, bidding farewell to her fans in great style.
