The National Liberation Museum Maribor is located in the elegant Neo-Renaissance Scherbaum villa, just in front of the promenade of the city park, which was built in the 1890s on the orders of the Maribor industrialist Gustav Scherbaum, the owner of the first steam mill in the city, based on the plans by the Graz architect Leopold Theyer. The museum hosts the exhibitions about Maribor in the 20th century, with two permanent collections dealing with the bombing of the city during the Second World War and the industrial achievements in the time of socialist Yugoslavia. The museum’s educational team organizes creative workshops for younger visitors.
